Surge

During operation, electronic and electrical devices, systems and installations should not be affected by surge voltages. Surge voltages are, for example, atmospheric discharges (lightning strikes), short circuits or considerable switching overvoltages (switching of capacitor banks). These voltages are associated with currents in the kV / kA range and rise times in the microsecond range and can have a broadband spectrum of up to several MHz. During surge testing, these high-energy voltages are simulated by the surge generators and their effect on the devices is tested in accordance with the relevant IEC 61000-4-5 standard.
