Maritime and Offshore

On board ships, drilling platforms, and offshore installations, electrical and electronic systems face a particularly demanding environment: dense cable routing in confined spaces, high-performance radio and navigation systems in close proximity to one another, vibration, a salt-water atmosphere, and the requirement to function reliably under all conditions – because an EMC-related failure of navigation or communication equipment can become safety-critical at sea.

The IEC 60945 standard defines, among other things, EMC requirements for nautical navigation and radiocommunication equipment and systems. It ensures that marine equipment operates reliably under the harsh electromagnetic conditions at sea and does not interfere with other onboard systems.
